Konrad's whole theme is "starting off with a good idea but losing yourself on the way to the goal".
There are always people like him in the world, who get corrupted by power or overzealousness. That's basically Konrad's whole spiel... and I love that for him.

Rumour had it that there were ways to gain these powers and become an Exalt yourself - and Konrad wants just that. This would give him everything he needed to finally reach his goal...

There are many stories in the world about the "Exalted", people with unusually strong magical abilities. Some were good, some were evil - but they ALL had the power change the world.

But Konrad, seeing how the world still drowned in war, somehow lost himself along the way. He would do anything to raise his city above all others, and get rid of the "dirt". But that would not only cost the lives of the criminals...but also those of many innocent people who had nowehere else to go.

Konrad worked tirelessly, building up a reputation despite his lack of status. Through this he eventually joined the city council and gained such a high status that people forgot that Konrad Liam Barlow wasn't, in fact, a nobleman himself. He became nobility and city leader in everything but title.

Konrad had great aspirations and wanted to stop the ongoing war between the countries of Escea (where he lived now), Rutana (where he was born) and Flodan (Rutana's neighbour). But with time he began to understand that the world wasn't that simple, and to bring change meant to take it by force.

He was born as the son of a human man and an agraean (elven) woman from the continent of Rutana. As a child, he was taken from his mother and was brought to Arduston, the infamous City of Dust, where he was raised as an upstanding middleclass man.
