deleted my posts and comments on /r/programming subreddit and will not be posting there. truly one of the few remaining places on the internet with the worst of 2000 pedant troll forum energy. always a mistake to engage there as it completely drains me

Ironic: as LLMs make writing much easier, I am finding not more, but less interesting and novel things to read online.

And so I keep paying more attention to the fewer people who still write their original thoughts (without LLMs - you can tell how repetitive it gets with them)

yea honestly this video is fantastic, very inspiring in terms of how to teach things. it’s much more intuitive than most introductory neural network materials
Yeah, for soft launch the Karpathy series with no priors, I'd start here www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMj-...
also I'd pair it with maybe some written material focusing more on giving 'higher level' picture of things

Now THIS is what a customer-centric app is.

Most banks keep sending out warning emails about impersonation and scams.

Any app can implement this capability with a little coding + backend work (assuming their BE sensible enough): and yet Monzo is the first one I’ve heard do it.

Cool opportunity! It reminds me of the startup I used to work at — we also relied heavily on Elixir.
I wish I had applied for this!

Good reminder that when writing dummy text, we should be careful to choose words that wouldn’t be incredibly creepy if accidentally broadcast to real users 😂

From newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/chatgpt-im...

Ask yourself: do you work at a place where devs can just do things? Not asking for permission, just getting to work. Even when it's risky and a bunch of revenue / millions of new users are on the line?

If so: you're a startup (probably!)

Interviewer: Can you explain the 11 year gap on your resume?

Me: I realised I never wanted my life dictated by the whims of some asshole I don’t respect, ever again. So I’ve worked for myself on my own terms.

I: Then why are you here?

Me: It’s nice to get out sometimes. Are you going to eat that?

Don't forget that LLMs/AI coding tools are NOT good at building novel things. They are good at copying what is out there & what they've been trained on

Right now, cutting-edge startups are building *so much* novel software, using new libraries, frameworks etc.

Guess who you need to get these done?

The sooner you know, the better — it’s true. Don’t wait too long to find out. If you’re still unsure, focus on shipping first.
The sooner you know where that code is the better, because that can guide to to making sure that’s fast.

This also help you catch problems before you've written so much code that fixing it is going to take ages.

I’m sorry but if your students use AI to write papers and you use AI to grade them zero school is happening. You are running together on a hamster wheel
Why even have a brain, any ideas, any ability to express them, any kind of communication with other people, any desire to solve problems or invent anything, any reason to learn, any use for your eyes or your heart, or any reason to teach or create

Everyone has lots of blindspots! Blindspots are opportunities that you don't see. Blindspots are mistakes, blunders, mishaps that you never even notice. These blindspots cause hopelessness. Because you cannot hope to improve until you become aware of HOW you can improve.
