The Tasmanian parliament yesterday formally passed legislation to establish a compensation scheme for people who had been charged or convicted of homosexuality or cross-dressing - a first for Australia. In a nation-leading reform, those convicted of homosexuality and cross-dressing crimes in the island state can receive up to $75,000 in redress.
