Omg…

I never even considered how much activist energy might be saved and focused on other things when it’s not girding for a fight constantly

I appreciate the generosity!

I remember seeing Kshama signs often on the top floors of brand new apartment buildings and just thinking “man, how fucked does a system have to be for those people to be socialists”
November 12, 2025 at 7:26 AM
I think this may be historically true, but as a new father meeting up with other new urban parents, I think having kids tends to accentuate underlying politics more than transform them completely. But I’m open to being wrong about that too :p

To be clear about my comment, it is that I don’t think young tech workers vote moderate. So your anecdote reads in line with my observation; few tech bros are splitting hairs in that way , but the 500k people are.

Also, again just in my experience as tech bro, 24 year olds making 150k are either activists doing mutual aid or so completely politically unaware they don’t know who pramila jayapal is.

But the 500k plus folks who are experts on the tax code…
November 12, 2025 at 5:36 AM
Mostly saying that when people conjure “tech bro” most will think of 24 year old coders making 150k and not 47 year olds making 750k
November 12, 2025 at 5:32 AM
IMO techies making under 200k are vastly more likely to be renters or have been renters for a long time, while the folks clearing 500k tend to be the ones spending 1.5m+ on houses- as you say, a variety in every strand but 150k coder on cap hill has more in common with their barista than their boss
November 12, 2025 at 5:30 AM
I think there’s definitely different flavors of tech worker but IMO the tech middle management who clear 500k+ yearly are far more harmful to the city’s politics than the young programmers and designers making 100k+

It would have been amazing just to have a mayor who wasn’t an obstructionist, but to get someone who is actually an activist is going to be a sea change.
