Cool to see Cynthia Nixon get a cameo in a movie made 20 years before she was born

I was watching the 1951 remake of M and they did one of these unironically. There weren't any lines like this in the original

This bit from Hired Wife (1940) feels unusually like a Dynasty precursor for the period. Outside of like The Women (1939) I haven't seen a lot of direct vitriol like this between female leads in these movies

I was looking at Fred MacMurray's filmography and this row of posters is such a funny cross-section of 1950s cinema

huh, I completely missed that Destry Rides Again got a Criterion release

I listened to Helter Skelter for the first time the other day. I really only knew of it through the association with Manson so I guess I was expecting something a little darker.

This might be controversial but I don't think Manson's "racial holy war" interpretation is supported by the text

well, now they've got another body to hide

David Wayne ODs in the first 15 minutes and the rest of the movie is about Frank Sinatra and Celeste Holm trying to hide or dispose of the body. The real Tender Trap was mixing uppers and downers.

David Wayne always reads as a gay best friend to me. Spencer Tracy kinda implies it in Adam's Rib, even though David's (incongruously) always hanging off Katharine Hepburn

I was never in a hurry to track down any Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis stuff so I had no idea that several of their movies were remakes of 30s and 40s romcoms?????

This actually grew on me a lot as it went on. It gets funnier once David Niven shows up. He plays at being a rival to William Holden but he's mostly just stirring things up for his own amusement.

I wonder how much a Picasso lithograph would run you in 1953. He's a pretty well-to-do architect but it doesn't seem to connote the extreme wealth it would today.

I was feeling a little burnt out on noir so I put on The Moon Is Blue (1953). It's not very funny so far. I'm not sure Otto Preminger is cut out for comedy
