I'm seeing people talk about the "great original music" at the Hugos. Don't get me wrong: I found the music delightful, but I don't think everyone is referring to the original intro/wait-to-start music. I think some of you suffer from an obvious lack of Agatha All Along in your lives.

Many things went well with Seattle Worldcon 2025; some things did not. Most accessibility issues at the Summit were the Summit's fault. The Sheraton was not an easily accessible choice for After-Dark events, however. I was gratified to see a ramp to the stage at the Hugos.

I am not sure what I expected for the military, based on the previous run, but it's all very concerning that the CA Guard hasn't received orders (or pay) for that mobilization, and then there's this. Don't expect any resistance from the US Armed Forces when regs are being openly broken to cheers.

I am not sure what I expected for the military, based on the previous run, but it's all very concerning that the CA Guard hasn't received orders (or pay) for that mobilization, and then there's this. Don't expect any resistance from the US Armed Forces when regs are being openly broken to cheers.
It's been months, but I still think this is important to share. This is only going to start happening MORE now, not less.
Yesterday I pulled overt references of queerness off my site, my very successful store that sells my books that have queer main characters. Because a few days ago, Meta emailed saying my advertising on their platform will be restricted - my site was categorized as "sexuality and gender identity."

It's been months, but I still think this is important to share. This is only going to start happening MORE now, not less.
I just learned Eric Flint died. (I know; it's been a few years.) This makes me sad. I barely knew him, but I enjoyed his work and had the privilege of feeding him for the duration of a con (my first), ages ago. He was terrifically kind, very pleasant, and extremely patient with me.

The only reason I haven't walked away yet is because of the position it would leave other volunteers in, as the program, guide, and souvenir books will be better with an actual editor managing their editing team, but at some point the cost to myself is too high, and that's pretty darn close now.
I'm so close quitting this volunteer gig. Being told to not publicly defend myself when I had nothing to do with something that really upset me to begin with really irks me.

I apparently liked too many posts by real friends and rejected too many ads, so I had to prove to Facebook I am a real person, and now my account is under review. What joy. I only have the account for purposes relating to a non-profit org in the first place. *le sigh*

The parallels are pretty obvious, here, though the scope of the presidential staffer shell game and the damage done to democracy have no modern precedent.
