Umm--Is the new HeinOnline interface basically the LibGuides A-Z list?

Want to procrastinate on grading? Read my article on Grading Legal Research, forthcoming in Law Library Journal and just posted to SSRN: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
Grading Legal Research
Forthcoming in Law Library Journal

Law school grading practices often conflict with legal research instruction goals. Small class sizes render norm-referenced (curved) grading unreliable, and the

My latest RIPS Blog Post is on something known as the Zeigarnik effect. I'll also be speaking at a panel on this topic at the AALL Annual meeting. ripslawlibrarian.wordpress.com/2025/04/30/t...
The Zeigarnik Effect
What is the Zeigarnik effect? Bluma Zeigarnik I’ll start with a confession: When I was first asked if I would be interested in participating in a panel on the Zeigarnik effect at the AA…

I'm more center-left than center-right, but I love The Dispatch. I highly recommend their legal podcast, Advisory Opinions. I learn a lot even when I don't agree, which is often. (I am also still shocked by some of the, um, drama at SCOTUSBlog!)

Legal research is hard, kids.

I teach Regulations.gov not because it is going to come up often in legal research, but because it makes administrative law more interesting and "real" for students. I use chocolate milk standards for school lunches to take it out of the political realm. Interesting for a "populist" administration.

As someone who identifies as center-left and largely votes for Democrats, I admire The Dispatch, even if I do not always agree. This is generally excellent (though I don't think Sarah's referenced takedown of Biden is her best work).
"We have not yet arrived at unalloyed tyranny. But we are getting closer, and that is bad enough."

At this point, I'm pretty sure I would give up the Internet for all non-essential work purposes (can't get a phone book these days) rather than voluntarily give my money to Elon Musk.

A picture I took a few years ago in Rogers Park, Chicago. Thank you Senator Booker. Excellent speech--not just long.

My cousin died in his early 30s of a rare brain cancer after having been exposed to burn pits in Iraq. If Amy Klobuchar thinks the Republicans are gutting the burn pits program, I believe her. (I don't trust Klobuchar on cloture. She *is* Democratic leadership. I expect her to vote with Schumer.).

Flow wins! Finally some good news in the world! My favorite film in any category this year. #Oscars2025

This whole country wants bad things for others more than they want good things for themselves.

I just watched Zelensky in the White House. You should too--even though it is painful. In my 55 years on this planet, I have never been so ashamed to be an American. Not hyperbole. Never.
It is so funny that The Daily today was all about how Trump remains some sort of mystical dealmaker. He never was. He is just a bully in a culture that rewards bullying.

Federal workers choose public service to serve our people, but the Trump administration wants to traumatize them.

We need cancer researchers, forest service firefighters, nuclear safety experts, VA nurses and food safety inspectors.

We don’t need Elon Musk, whatever his job is.

#bestpicture2025 #Oscars2025 Every year I watch all of the Best Picture nominees. Not a great year, in my opinion. My overall rankings: Conclave, I'm Still Here, Anora, [gap] A Complete Unknown, The Brutalist, Wicked, Dune 2, Nickel Boys [big gap] The Substance, Emilia Perez.

The most revealing look at the electorate. In only one election since 1976 has "Did Not Vote" lost.

Pretty sad that almost all of my reading is work-related. Popcorn with the Pope is a fun one--it is based on a list of "best films" that the Vatican put out in the hopes of having something positive to say about culture. Planning to finish out the year with some non-work stuff. #GoodreadsYearInBooks
