“Two duties belong to our souls. One is to reverently marvel. The other is humbly to endure, always taking pleasure in God. He wants us to remember that life is short and it won't be long until we clearly see, within him, all that we desire.”

This reflection is timely as it comes to us on Mother's Day. "One person who celebrated the Divine Feminine and Sophia is the late Catholic monk Thomas Merton. Merton, like Julian of Norwich whom he praised prodigiously, developed the theme of the “Motherhood of God." For your reflection...

This fair lovely word ‘mother’ is so sweet and so kind in itself that it cannot truly be said of anyone except of him who is the true mother of life and of all things. The kind, loving mother who knows and recognizes the needs of her child protects it very tenderly.

Apparently today, 8th May, is the Feast of Julian of Norwich. It therefore seems appropriate to share my post from last year.

Time to re-read Julian of Norwich, A Very Brief History by the fabulous @drjaninaramirez.bsky.social. Julian wasn't a typical 14th century woman, which is one of the fascinations. Her quote "All shall be well. All shall be well. And all manner of thing shall be well." is one I find calming.

Today we remember Julian of Norwich, Mystic and Theologian, c. 1417.

Triune God, Father and Mother to us all, who showed your servant Julian revelations of your nurturing and sustaining love: Move our hearts, like hers, to seek you above all things, for in giving us yourself you give us all. Amen.

Today is the feast of Julian of Norwich in the Anglican churches.* Interestingly, the date commemorates not her death, but the date she began to have her revelations. The oldest MS of the "Short Text" is BL Add 37790, 1st 1/2 of the 15th c., which is, praise be, back online. 🕯️🧵 #medievalsky
