Zur Stärkung der - na klar - Resilienz von Postdocs bietet die Postdoc Academy der Berlin University Alliance jetzt "Pferdegestütztes Coaching" an. Auf dem Workshop kann man seine Resilienz "durch direkte, nonverbale Rückmeldung von Pferden" stärken.

...zumindest, wenn sie nicht mittlerweile privatisiert und ausgelagert wurden. Dass die hier dokumentierten Tätigkeiten und Berufe auch heute noch weitgehend unsichtbar bleiben - übrigens auch für weite Teile der Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung - hat sich nicht geändert.

Ein tolles zeitgeschichtliches Dokument, das sich zwischen ethnografischer Studie und gewerkschaftlichem Engagement bewegt. Viele der beschriebenen betrieblichen Abläufe sind heute natürlich völlig anders, Stichwort "Fernsprechzentrale". Andere Bereiche dürften heute noch ähnlich funktionieren. 2/n

Colleagues and I got a paper rejected that we submitted more than a year ago. I'm aware how difficult it is to find reviewers and how the peers that actually do reviews are overloaded. But this is still super frustrating.

The ratio of core/base funding and third-party funding at German universities from 2013 to 2022. After a slight decline until 2020, the share of third-party funding in the overall funding of universities is increasing again, and significantly so.

Manchmal ist die Begutachtung von Abschlussarbeiten das reinste Vergnügen: Eine fantastische Arbeit darüber, wie migrantische Eltern die Bildungsaufstiege ihrer Kinder wahrnehmen und mit möglichen Habitustransformationen und Entfremdungen umgehen. Die Interviews mit den Eltern sind so reichhaltig!

Manchmal ist die Begutachtung von Abschlussarbeiten das reinste Vergnügen: Eine fantastische Arbeit darüber, wie migrantische Eltern die Bildungsaufstiege ihrer Kinder wahrnehmen und mit möglichen Habitustransformationen und Entfremdungen umgehen. Die Interviews mit den Eltern sind so reichhaltig!

Cool paper on science skepticism, suggesting that a) there's no specific science-skeptic demographic profile, rather, b) different skepticisms are related to worldviews like religiosity, and c) neither skepticism has coherent (negative) attitudes toward science or technology

Remarkably, we did not find stark differences between status groups regarding experiences of moral devaluation or professional problems. However, Ph.D. students and postdocs report more often than professors to adapt their teaching and research in advance because they expect negative consequences.

Going beyond expected restrictions, we asked respondents about actual experiences with restrictions of academic freedom. 4-6% have experienced moral devaluation or professional problems in research or teaching. Extrapolated to all scientific staff, this amounts to roughly(!) 8.000 cases in Germany.

Asked whether they expect restrictions if they would set up their research/teaching according to their own ideas, 6-10% expect moral devaluation or professional problems if they do so. Extrapolated to all scientific staff at German higher ed. institutions, that's roughly(!) 10.000 to 15.000 cases.
