I arrived in the UK in 2018. The way the Brexit debate was framed made it clear to me back then: eventually EU citizens would be made to feel just as unwelcome as any of the others, in the name of “we want less forinners”. Left in 2021, never looked back, suggest everyone does the same if they can

Ms Kempner, I came to your account for the comedy, I stayed for the very on-point political takes

Guess this was supposed to read “the original antifascists”

Speaking of things making themselves irrelevant and shrinking their audience, how are things at the Washington Post?

Not as much as centrist parties (I include Labour) being incredibly incapable of showing that they’re not “more of the same”, even when they actually have most or all of the power (UK, FR, US and probably many other countries I don’t know about).

I don’t think that Harris would have been nearly as bad as Trump. I was devastated by the election. I do believe that Starmer has only been a very marginal improvement over the Tories, and that this is what drives the far right up in the polls. Certainly not voices from the Left criticising them 🤷🏽‍♂️

Then we can agree on this: their rhetoric is mimicking Farage’s. What follows is a wider perception that these are “reasonable concerns”. In that sense, it doesn’t matter if Labour IS different than Reform, they’re still paving the road for it.

I follow you, think your podcast is great and agree with you on multiple topics. But the dismissive attitude towards multitudinous voices on the Left, I do not understand. I’m not talking about Guardian pundits, I’m talking about orgs on the ground fighting these issues, and losing under Labour

Yvette Cooper and the bunting? Starmer talking repeatedly about immigration and small boats as a legitimate reason for anger? The walk back of trans rights? Treating pro-Palestine protesters under anti-terrorism law?

I’m sorry but I don’t exactly see what is wrong with the headline? Are you arguing that Labour has not tried to out-Farage Farage in the past six months?

As someone else pointed out, the Left didn't "invent" Cancel Culture, it was just a catchy label on something probably a century old if not more. See McCarthyism, the stalinist purges, probably tons of other examples.

An interview of @markruffalo.bsky.social is what finally tipped me into subscribing, well done

The French government is just as bad as the UK when it comes to the treatment of migrants. They’re still the scapegoats but in different ways, such as being accused of hoarding benefits.

Genuine question about Labour politics. I have not heard Khan defending Starmer or his govt very much. Did I just miss it and he’s just as bad as them, or is there a chance he could be an ally to the Greens within Labour (I know that sounds like wishful thinking)?

Je ne suis pas fan du tout mais vous voyez quel profil pour la remplacer franchement, quelqu’un encore plus à droite ? Étant donné les forces en présence au PE

“Who gives a crap” would be my four-word reaction to seeing this article. Stop idolising ultra-wealthy people

You’re a great writer. Yet, it looks like the article keeps referring to LFI as far-left, which is just…. wrong, sorry. And I don’t even like them very much. Would you call Die Linke far left?
