And Juliana Wahlgren of @eapneurope.bsky.social reminds us that while the participation of people experiencing in democracy is key „it is not fair to demand from people in poverty to prioritize democratic processes over their immediate needs.“

🧩 Our position paper calls on the @ec.europa.eu to establish a Committee of People Experiencing Poverty to ensure their lived experience shapes the Anti-Poverty Strategy from start to finish.

Participation must be meaningful, not extractive.

Based on the analysis of national reports, EAPN members identified key action points to ensure that social protection systems are addressed in a systemic way. We believe that taking a systemic approach to social protection is essential for shaping public policies that can eradicate poverty.

Only a few months after agreeing on new fiscal rules, EU is preparing to suspend them again—a signal the rules are not fit for purpose.

Instead of forcing governments into unhealthy trade-offs between defense, climate action & social protection, the EU must rethink its approach to fiscal policy.
If all times are extraordinary, why make fiscal rules for ordinary times?
The EU fiscal rules have been suspended for four years to allow sizable public spending in response to the pandemic and the energy price increase following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Only a few…

🚨If you’re not counted, you don’t count

On the #IWD25, MEP @marietouss1.bsky.social, @julesbrussels.bsky.social (EAPN) and @shushanaasur.bsky.social (EAPN), call for intersectional, disaggregated statistics to reflect all women’s realities.

Op-ed: Vulnerable women are too often missing from poverty data
Official statistics fail to capture vulnerable groups of women, meaning they’re often excluded from EU policies to fight poverty.

🚨 Vulnerable women are missing from EU poverty data—& from the solutions!

If you're not counted, you don’t count. Migrant women, single mothers & disabled women remain invisible in stats, weakening the fight against poverty & gender inequality.

Millions of women, such as migrants, single mothers, disabled women, domestic violence survivors, Roma women, people deprived of liberty, among others, are missing from EU poverty statistics. That means they’re also missing from policy solutions.
