Wrap your mind around two things at once, Isaac. What the Trump administration is doing to Khalil is lawless, terrifying, and wrong. Also: CUAD has been super-explicit about its support for Hamas, and he has served as a spokesman for CUAD. I oppose his deportation. I also oppose his whitewashing.

A shocking detail from the Signal affair that you may not have known (from the Jewish Insider):

My distant cousin Uri Shulevitz (we never figured out how far removed), one of the most magical children's book authors and illustrators, died three weeks ago. Whether you have children or not, you should experience the pleasure of looking at his books. Baruch Dayan Ha-Emet.

No one has ever tried harder to get arrested than the protesters at Barnard. They're as happy as can be right now.

They threw their all into it: pamphlets with Hamas logos on them. Poster of Sinwar, "Wanted" poster of Barnard v-p. Screaming into a bullhorn in a library. Etc.

No one who has not been to Israel in the past 491 days can grasp the intensity of ordinary Israelis' feelings about the hostages. It is as if every last one is everyone's first cousin. Social solidarity there, despite all that has happened since the hard-right coalition took over, is unbelievable.

People keep saying that "coup" is not the right word, or not helpful. But naming things accurately IS helpful. So, to be clear, what Trump and Musk are doing is a particular kind of coup, called a "self-coup" ("autogolpe" in Spanish; the term originated in Latin America):

I wrote a piece about what to do in the event of a coup before the 2020 election. I was four years too early. Gift link in first reply.

Wapo blew one terrorists-at-GMU story (see quoted, below) but got the next one—about an Egyptian student planning to blow up the Isr. Consulate in NY. (See photo.) But where’s the NYT? It’s almost as if they just didn’t care about Islamist terror on campus.

Police find unsecured weapons and bulk ammo in the family home of George Mason's SJP president and past president (they're sisters)--plus Hamas and Hezbollah flags and armbands that say, "Kill [Jews] where they stand." This is how Wapo headlines the story:

Wouldn't be so sure that Khalidi's Hundred Years' War on Palestine is the definitive work on the Nakba. "Apart from misinterpretations and distortions, the book contains a series of whoppers, almost all of them politically tendentious."--Benny Morris

UCLA Student Council's student cultural affairs officer made the mistake of telling her staff--by tweet!--to weed out Zionists who apply for positions. No applicants who answered "what's an issue relevant to you" by mentioning Jewishness (not Zionism) were selected.

They don't usually tweet it.
