reminder if you are still in clean-up mode today, don’t overwork your garbage disposals.

today the busiest day of the year for plumbers. fats, starches, and bones do not belong in a disposal or drain.

reduce food waste, compost where you can, and don’t treat your drains like a trash can.

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

"a single person of this demographic may have committed a crime, therefore we must punish the entire demographic" is a policy response you may recognize from fascist governments dedicated to ethnic cleansing elsewhere.
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

My second child, now four years old! How time flies. Eternally grateful to the press for working with my "no computers!" diktat for the cover. Found this sweet Victorian etching instead.

This is hands down my favorite genre award, sculpturally speaking. Like yeah whatever the Hugo rocket is a classic blah blah... It is *boring* as a piece of art. This is great.

Good news: First review of the week!

Even better news: It’s @thehubble101.bsky.social on Alix E. Harrow!

“The dismissal of fantasy is compounded by the strategy of rhetorical containment in which novels in the genre by women are singled out.”
The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow
A critical discomfort with fantasy still remains a feature of public life.

Got fired from my first job because it required attention to detail and also I didn’t know the difference between a passport and a visa. Applied a bunch of places, ended up in software QA and it turns out I’m good at translating to developers when people complain about bugs.
