I think they need the green arrow time in order to clear the traffic from the ramp.

From the article it sounds like they plan to make it a protected-only left, so left-turning traffic will have a red arrow during the trail crossing phase. If that’s the case that should eliminate the biggest issue.

An LPI can’t come before a green arrow phase, because a green arrow means vehicles can turn with no conflicts (including with peds). If the LPI was before the green arrow, the green arrow would come on while peds are still crossing. It would have to be a dedicated ped phase at that point.

The pedestrian signal heads are still covered on all corners. They were still installing the brick around the curb ramps when I went through there this morning.

I know in the past the race director and his team have walked the course in the days following the race to clean up any trash, I wonder if they hadn’t done that yet

(I, for one, always leave my used energy gels in my empty cup at an aid station so they’re easy to clean up)

Related: there is now an LPI at High St & 5th Ave for people crossing 5th (no LPI for people crossing High)

Can't go wrong checking out High St in the Short North, either. You just missed one of the Open Streets events this past weekend (these photos are from this spring). Streetscape was fully reconstructed 5-10 years ago.

East of downtown on Broad St, protected bike lanes recently went in. Nothing too crazy, but they are testing different types of vertical separation. There are also a pair of Zicla bus platforms. A future project will take this space and create a signature urban trail.

I'd also check out Gay Street. It's the classic example of urban infill in Columbus. Countless parking lots replaced with green space, townhomes, apartments. There's also an art piece, "Current," suspended above the Gay & High intersection.

Columbus's trails are its strongest active transpo assets. Definitely check out the riverfront downtown (known as the Scioto Mile) -- it's truly a gem, with trails and lots of green space. Connects to the Olentangy trail. There's also an easy trail loop you can do (on the map).

I have lost count how many times I’ve seen westbound drivers run the red light only to have to back up the length of the bridge because there was oncoming traffic with a green
June 5, 2025 at 12:00 PM
It’s being managed fine outside of working hours (as long as drivers don’t run the red light or move the barricades in Front St, which they do frequently). I know they have been pouring concrete on the bridge deck this week though so that may have caused additional delays during working hours

Thanks, I’ll reach out to ODOT

Is ODOT supposed to be reopening Short Street under I-70 for this detour? It was still closed when I tried to go through this morning.

(Even if it were open, the pavement is in really poor condition & there are no sidewalks under I-70…)

My ideal scenario is this intersection gets a traffic signal and the left turns and thru bikes get separate signal phases.

I think there are ways to improve the current setup (goal being to slow turning vehicles), but the sight issues from the bridge piers may still be too much of an issue.

I always merge into the left turn lane and go straight from there.

Depending on where I’m coming from, I sometimes take High St up to Warren before going over to 4th just to avoid this whole area and the overpass before it (though Warren has been closed of late)

Not just avocado prices… half of all produce sold in the US comes from Mexico (if not more, this time of year).

So much for lowering grocery prices.

This chicane is pretty aggressive- the lane shifts look to have a 20mph design speed. It’s interesting it was built like that when the speed limit is 35.

While high-end speeding is likely a problem, I imagine even if everyone was going 35 there would still be speeding complaints. 35 is pretty fast!
