They say you never forget your first. Mine was _Skinny Legs and All_, my sophomore year of college. It rocked my world hard enough that all the others that existed at that point followed in quick succession, in whatever order I could get my hands on them...

New Orleans has officially entered the "frantic teenager trying to clean up after a weekend-long keg-and-whippet party in the hour before their parents get home" phase of its Super Bowl preparations. I mean, that's kinda where we've been for the past three months, but now it's on full display.

There was a time when I used to respond to the "Evolution is just a theory" trope with "So is germ theory, but no one doubts that you should cover your mouth when you cough." Then a critical mass of humanity became too stupid for that retort to be effective any more. Guess they showed me.

The "If the bible says it, then your opinion doesn't matter" crowd sure has some awfully big opinions lately.

Historians generally agree that about every 50 to 100 years or so, the human race collectively loses its damn mind. I try to take comfort in that fact when I look at the world now, knowing we've been here before. Thing is, we've never had the power to be as efficiently self-destructive as we do now.

It's been an odd morning of finding friends here, and unfollowing people on FB who are still, after all this time, copy and pasting the "According to the show 60 minutes, just in case you missed it" scam. Honestly, people, does 60 minutes even exist any more?

My tentative plan is to make this my "screaming into the void" platform, and keep the more lighthearted stuff on FB. Just so you know.
