Poilievre says to anyone he can that they're bought and paid for by the Liberals. His hundreds of thousands of social media followers seem to agree. As I predicted in Kill the Messengers, conservatives have worked hard, and spent a lot of money, to replace the old media with a partisan version that looks like professional commercial websites.9 Ezra Levant, who co-wrote opinion pieces in the Calgary Herald with Poilievre, worked for Preston Manning and Stockwell Day on the Hill, and anchored the defunct Sun News Network in the Harper years, runs an online media outlet called Rebel News that regularly platforms members of the extreme right. Levant uses his fundrais- ing talents to develop ginned-up grievance campaigns that create a steady flow of cash for his organization. What seems like bad news for other outlets is good news for Levant: every lawsuit, every denial by some official of press credentials, every arrest of a Rebel staffer, is cause for another fundraising drive.
