The AAUP, echoing Mill in 1915: "the dangers connected tendency of modern democracy is for men to think alike, to feel alike, and to speak alike... Public opinion is at once the chief safeguard of a democracy, and the chief menace to the real liberty of the individual."

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

“This Constitution is said to have beautiful features; but when I come to examine these features…they appear to me…frightful…among other deformities, it has an awful squinting: it squints towards monarchy…your President may easily become King.” - Patrick Henry

Uh anyone have this cease and desist letter he says they sent Democrats because I have some First Amendment concerns...
Johnson: "Do not believe the lies the Democrat Party has said. We had their ads taken down. They were running ads around the country in swing districts trying to convince people Republicans are going to 'gut Medicaid.' It's just simply not true & that's why their ads & billboards had to come down"

It is a hostile and political act to tell costumers how much things cost
REPORTER: Amazon will soon display a number next to the price of each product that shows how much the Trump tariffs are adding. Isn't that a perfect demonstration that it's the American consumer who is paying for these policies?

@georgetownlaw.bsky.social's great dean, Bill Treanor, posted on LinkedIn a letter he co-signed with 78 law deans protesting Trump memos targeting law firms-a stronger letter than the ABA's pablum. Deans of most T10 schools are not among them, which is disappointing. www.linkedin.com/posts/willia...

Interesting findings! In line with @danwphilosophy.bsky.social's excellent work on the marketplace of rationalizations - conspiracy theories might work to rationalize antidemocratic attitudes that are already there, and that's why people adopt them.
Over the 2020 US and NZ elections, antidemocratic attitudes preceded conspiracy beliefs, rather than conspiracy beliefs fostering antidemocratic attitudes

it probably doesn't need saying, but for those concerned that federal aid mostly used to address foreign health issues abroad has been cut with the dismantling of USAID, there are real ways for ordinary people to step up and fill the new gaps:
