tbh this year has been a real doozy for Bad Brain Time (both world and personal terms) but all my Mm pals getting together for a little party tonight reminding me I’m surrounded by very good quality people all the time at home and at work. I’m very lucky. I have a lot of reasons to be happy.

Folks I'm here to tell you I still don't know how masks work in anything.
No creative app has ever nailed the verbiage of masking. I still have absolutely no idea what will happen when I press "Mask", and will always have to rearrange layers for five minutes to get to the result I wanted, still with a sense that I don't know how. It's the USB-A orientation of software.

After the AI bubble I hope the next bubble is Laser Tag. Laser tag arenas on every street corner. Blacklight lit battlefields propping up every sector of the economy. A one story building by the side of the highway called “Blast Zone: Pizza & Arcade” valued at $2.7 trillion

Dudes like this get paid enormous sums to fuck around and find out what anyone who actually engages with these platforms could tell them in 30 seconds. Nice work if you can get it.
I had no idea amazon was trying to compete against steam

The whole reason Steam got a foothold was because Valve had proven itself with Half-Life 1 & 2, orange box. They weren't nobodies; they were given the benefit of the doubt

Other companies trying to build stores from the ether have nothing
I legitimately didn't know they were competing with Steam and it's crazy to me that they burnt so much money on what sounds like something with very little (or wildly misguided) market research.

machine girl's new record is a really great snot nosed technicolour punk album, vibrant and angry. dark times can at least make for great art.

it was nice to be around during the five minutes about 25 years ago when tech companies were earnestly trying to figure out ways to make life cooler / better

It's bad all the way down, but "AI-centric HR" in particular is really dark. A computer doesn't give a shit about your grievance.
Krafton (PUBG, Subnautica, Tango Gameworks) says it is now an "AI first" company, with automated work, AI-centric HR, management systems, and workflows, in-game AI, and a full company-wide AI infrastructure.

If I've learned anything from being at the same place for twelve years, it's that stubborn heel-digging rarely gets you anywhere or does much for your reputation as someone that's good to work with.
Be careful about taking advice from folks who have only worked at one company for 10+ years. They are smart folks, but they're experienced with their internal systems, workflows, and pipelines only.

They will be convinced that what they do works super well. And they're correct! But only for them.

have faith in your own experiences and interpretations!!! let your personal experience of something have meaning, as opposed to trying to find the “correct” meaning
please watch movies and read books and play games and look at art, please view it with your own eyes through a lens you made yourself and not just through video essayists and ending explained videos please im begging you

stunning false equivalence here. is it cope or do the execs in charge of these products truly have no idea what people actually think of them or why they use them? I'll help: everyone hates them, and people only use them because they have to.
