After turning off the AI "smart features" in gmail my inbox now permanently has two unread ghost emails that I cannot find and cannot clear. So now I know I have a new email when the number ticks up to three. I guess that's what I get for not wanting my email to be smart.

On any given day in the USA there are more children being sexually assaulted in a place of worship than there are trans folks playing sports. But sure! Tell me more about how you're just concerned with keeping kids safe.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Been feeling sickly so made some garlic tea: a handful of roughly chopped garlic cloves boiled in a few cups of water and then mixed with some lemon juice and honey. I realized I'd basically made a garlic hot toddy without the whiskey, so, like a beautiful genius, I added whiskey.

Devastating. Teen Vogue's politics coverage has been incredible and this is a major loss for journalism.

Legacy journalism keeps on getting rid of the only people making it worth anything anymore.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

This thread is about Evanston, but this has also been going on without reprieve in Elgin, Aurora, and other Chicago suburbs—a metro area of nearly 10 million people.
Some context to the viral videos:

Around 9am Friday, ICE/CBP *encircled* several square miles of a safe suburb and *stormed* it using multiple units.

They were in cars, on foot in alleys & gangways, and in helicopters. They demanded papers, threatened residents, pointed guns, kidnapped people.

I really can't emphasize enough that OpenAI is, as Dr. Gilliard has described in the past, a social arsonist enabling racism, and I urge colleagues in education using OpenAI's products - including ed-tech platforms that incorporate its products like Khanmigo and MagicSchool - to stop.
Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

Folks looking for evidence of SNAP recipients as welfare queens have no shortage of AI generated schlock to use as justification.
