I have a hunch you can request Meta to give you all data they have on you (as well as posts), so you can get all the images and shit you've posted over the decades.
After that, it's pretty much up to you if you want to leave the account as it is, deactivate it or downright delete it.

After pretty much abandoning Facebook 6-8 years ago for unrelated reasons, I don't miss it. You should definitely strive for limiting exposure, not sure why haven't you done so already. DO IT.
