I’ve been in a room with Putin. He calls Ukrainians “Russians with accents.” His real fear isn’t NATO expansion, it’s democracy expansion. It shatters his entire argument for dictatorship at home. Because if Ukrainians embrace freedom, Russians may demand the same.

Oh Farage actually used the "banter" defence.

He's quite literally copying the Bernard Manning playbook

bsky.app/profile/raks...
ITV Evening News had another few seconds of this interview, where he says it’s “banter on a playground”

Farage starts to say “But, isn’t it funny…”

ITV: “Okay, so you did say stuff to these people then?”

NF: “I've never directly racially abused anybody. No.”

What was funny, Nigel? 🤔

A US-brokered peace-deal between Russia and Ukraine is moving forward, but there have been questions over its initial leniency towards Vladimir Putin’s demands and where it originated.

New analysis by non-profit climate group Possible today:

Private jet passengers typically pay less than 1% of the cost of their flights in taxes, compared to 26%-54% paid by economy passengers on standard flights

Loopholes mean private jetters often pay little or no APD, nor fuel duty on kerosene.

Wow. Just saw that far-right MP Rupert Lowe welcomed convicted criminal Lucy Connolly, who called for people to set fire to hotels housing immigrants, to Parliament last Mon.

Lowe (formerly of Reform UK) praised her "courage"

Connolly, of course, pleaded guilty to inciting racial hatred last year.

First Donald Trump, then Joe Biden using the terms of the Trump ‘deal’, sold out Afghanistan to the Taliban. Most European govts think Trump is now selling out Ukraine in the same way — trading major concessions for a belief in Putin’s promises, and not caring very much anyway.

Still widespread denial. So let's take an example - support for special educational needs has never been better resourced in the UK. Yet the widespread belief is that this is worse than before.

Other examples available.

Modern politics has a massive problem.
Of course in many respects everyone's life could be better. But that was always the case. There was never a time when life was particularly better than now.

So at what point in recent years did we start to expect that the government would take care of everything? And why?
