part of this is knowing that the filmmakers will see my reviews, and that they are actively working- I can harm/help them in however small a way I do. the other part is that most new films aren’t great, even if they are good, or at least don’t fit into the modes of cinema that interest me most.

I couldn’t stand Under the Skin when I first watched a few years ago… going to see Zone of Interest today expecting something similar. For some reason Glazer’s particular brand of philosophical emptiness bothers me greatly. DB lands for me because it seems aware of its emptiness and plays into it 🤷
