The philosophical and practical merits of filibuster abolition aside, and they are many, how does this help them win Senate races? It’s urgent that I send money to candidates in Maine, Ohio, North Carolina and Nebraska, why, exactly? It we aren’t in the range of 60, I’m supposed to be motivated why?

The filibuster has become a fascinating litmus test of the chasm separating D senators from their voters. It's not just a disagreement. Ending the filibuster is now close to an article of faith among D voters; for the Senators it's like abolishing habeas or trial by jury. Unthinkable, unamerican.

They think their voters are morons. Which is essentially the winning play GOP candidates have been running for about 20 years.

This may well destroy any chance they had at drawing to 50/51 next year in the Senate. Why would anyone send money or waste a weekend knocking doors or, you know, vote, to achieve the same result they’d get by not doing any of those things?

The House caucus is solid. We clearly need a very robust two primary cycles in the Senate. Beginning with the senior Senator from New York. He’s living in an Aaron Sorkin script from 1999 while everyone else is living in the real world.

It’s like they slept through last week. Missed the whole Tuesday thing.

This is what Senate Democrats learned from last Tuesday?
