I live in a rural hamlet. Our region voted for Obama, then Trump.

Today are our town board elections.

In our local elections, most folks split their tickets and vote based on the candidate, not their party.

Two years ago, which party held a majority on the town board was decided by ten votes.

My hot take is the outcome of next year's NY governor's race primary (Hochul v. Delgado) might impact people's lives much more than the mayoral election. A lot of what Mamdani wants to do requires the governor.

But either way, go vote!

Local broadcasters should call playoff games in all sports. They always know the teams better and are always more interesting personalities
John Smoltz giving a very persuasive argument as to having local broadcasters call the playoffs and World Series.
I’m seeing everyone post some version of this take and it’s because Smoltz is always giving “I hate baseball” energy when his job is to create excitement around baseball. He is the Andrew Cuomo running for mayor of NYC while constantly trashing NYC of baseball announcers.

The problem with chest freezers is that the design tempts you to do last-in-first-out.

I want a basement freezer with two doors on opposite side walls — one to put things in and one to pull things out. For last-in-first-out.

When will we start saying that ChatGPT "lies"?

The usual term is "hallucination".

But when asked a question that it doesn't know the answer to, it often presents a false answer with full confidence. When you tell it "that's not right", it admits it was being untruthful.

"Head over heels" is a confusing phrase because when everything is normal and stable my head is over my heels.

Just learned that iphone can show only the unread texts.

You gotta toggle on Settings > Messages Filter Unknown Senders.

You can still also see texts from unknown senders, they're just in their own list.

Is there a thinkpiece on how ranked-choice voting might have enabled Mamdani's win?

Used to be, folks were afraid to "throw away their vote" on progressives who "couldn't win"...

but with ranked-choice voting, folks can vote their actual preference.
