It may have rained all night on the laundry I had hung up to dry but there was a nice rainbow this morning.

My olives were finally finished curing so now they go into a marinade for a few weeks. Marinade consists of water, salt, coriander seed, fennel seed, bay leaves, fresh thyme, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, and olive oil.

You know it's properly winter when I finally get around to making French onion soup; like the old-school version that takes almost 3 hours just to soften and then caramelize the onions.

A gift from a friend, it's a baby so very small and they grow slowly so I'd guess probably at least 5 years until maturity.

I haven't posted much here lately, but I tonight made (an attempt at) Vietnamese "Shaking Beef" (Bò lúc lắc); turned out pretty good I think!

We had some radicchio that needed to be used before it went off so we made this recipe I found on Serious Eats. Radicchio Pizza with Italian sausage. Modified to use a different pizza dough recipe that doesn't need to ferment/proof for three days but IT WAS SOOOO FUCKING AWESOME AND DELICIOUS!

Finally a real Vietnamese restaurant in Pretoria! Before Annam opened recently we either had to drive to Rivonia (a suburb of Johannesburg) to eat at Saigon (which is very good by the way) or I had to cook Vietnamese food at home (which I'm pretty decent at).

~ Mary Shelley
The only known photograph in existence of Mary Shelley.

This x 3x2 inch daguerreotype was taken in 1842 when Shelley visited Bath (where she wrote Frankenstein) to promote the novel’s sequel,... The Bride of Frankenstein?

Thank goodness we were heading home from Nicky's mom's house today so were heading northbound instead of southbound! There were two multi-vehicle crashes and a diesel spill approximately 80 km (@50 miles) south of where we got on the N3 highway so all southbound traffic was just stopped completely.

I think this is literally the best meme about the Signal incompetence and negligence I've seen so far this week!
