What’s fantastic about this is that Reacher pretty famously hates all authority, is very skeptical of cops, and it’s pretty much his exact MO to take down people in power who are hurting the defenseless.

We’re living in a remarkable time where some of our greatest filmmakers are examining their own legacies and saying “what have I done? Why am I doing this? What does this say about me? About us?”

The movie works very hard to deny our attempts to be entertained by what we’re seeing. The violence isn’t glamorous. The villains and banal and stupid.
And even then Scorsese worried, you sense, it wasn’t enough. That he didn’t do right by the story.
