This didn't allow enough time for me to really emotionally invest in the present dilemmas Alice was faced with.

If you're a fan of Kuang's other work then you'll enjoy this, but if you haven't read any of her books before I'd start with Babel before picking this up.

Mini (spoiler free) Katabasis review:

I liked but didn't love this book.

I think my main issue was the academic theory (usually one of my favourite features of Kuang's work) on logic was spaced too close together in that I was constantly being drawn out of the current narrative. (1/2)
