We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

My Congressperson @repdean.bsky.social just emailed this.

Each year, I return to Conn. Gov. Wilbur Cross’s 1936 Thanksgiving message: www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/histo... He wrote that the world had “brought us by a way that we did not know to the end of another year.”
By a way that we did not know.

Also that last part is absolutely not true. Every artist hates a bunch of people sometimes including close friends of theirs.

Someone else (probably Stephen Miller) obviously wrote this post. Not that it matters that much, since I’m sure Trump shares most of these vile opinions, but it’s a harsh reminder that Gramps isn’t actually running the country, and the people who are will still be around after he kicks the bucket.

White's essay on freedom is worth reading. So is Charlotte's Web, of course. And so is his essay on democracy, but it is behind The New Yorker paywall.
NEW: Gregory Bovino is exactly who E.B. White — author of 'Charlotte's Web' — warned us about.

DHS named its North Carolina anti-immigrant effort "Operation Charlotte's Web." In 1940, White wrote of the "smell" that "rises" from those who "adjust to fascism" over freedom.
