I have to manually change the @ in the thing I use to post on multiple socials, and I used _ instead of - ...

I did plan longer than I actually make these and rushed them a bit, but I had fun with this contest and I'm happy with everything in the end. 14/14

Speaking of colors, the shinies so far have mostly stuck with inverting the red with blue and vice versa, but this time I drew from the King Matjaž mural on the last slide. 13/14

I tried but ultimately didn't incorporate King Matjaž's table, but incidentally, the Fakemon also ended up looking like a throne. The colors I ended up going with were decided before I realized this, so that was another happy accident. 12/14

The two cannons fit along the sides as the carrying poles of another inspiration: a litter, palanquin, or whatever name is used for this kind of human-powred transport. Given the royal theming, I though it progressed well from going on foot/crawling, to horse power, to this. 11/14

Its a bit stocky and very similar to the previous stage's species, but a golden yellow instead of a dark red (but with some red splotches about).

The weapon of choice upgrades to a cannon, specifically a "minion;" I was going to go with a bombard, but I couldn't find too much information it. 10/14

One common trait he has is his long beard, wrapping around the table a number of times before he wakes, represented here by the Pokemon's antennae.

The species of centipede this time around is Lithobius radjai, discovered in a cave in Croatia in the Dinaric karst a believe around 2021. 9/14

including leading and army to fight God I guess. Either in fleeing or as punishment, he finds himself within or beneath a mountain. Here, as he is often depicted, he sleeps at a table, until he awakens again, in some cases to fight off invaders, in others to destroy the world. 8/14

to specialized trained dragoon, to the most skilled shooter, and a military line up to the highest possible rank, the king himself.

King Matjaž is a king figure in central European folklore, not unlike King Arthur or Gilgamesh. He has several feats across tellings of his tales, 7/14

a character from a large number of central European folklore (including Slovenia and Croatia). King Matjaž fit the fairy type better, but Lampret was more intriguing to me, so I went with both. With each final stage, they follow their own progression respectively of a standard unit, 6/14

I really like this interpretation of the type in both understanding the reasoning behind choosing the type and in making a Pokemon.

From the beginning, I had narrowed the main inspiration down to the previous magical marksman, and King Matjaž, 5/14

The last category I feel is the one that can be most the most expounded upon away from the traditional fairies, sprites, etc. thanks to Pokemon such as those from the Grimmsnarl line (Goblins) and Primarina (Mermaids) (and possibly Zacian as well); 4/14

so I started looking into Slovenian/Croatian folklore for fairy type inspiration. The way I've interpreted the fairy typing, Pokemon with it are some combination of pink, cute, elegant, or, naturally, fae-like. 3/14

This one has quite a few influences, some from the start, some while putting it together.

From the start, I wanted incorporate some of the optional suggestions from this challenge, if not at least to give myself some constraints, 2/14

I believe the guns in Der Freischütz and other versions tend to be handguns, but going back in size felt like less of a progression.

The final stage will be posted tomorrow, and this one evolves when leveling with a King's Rock... 14/14

Finally, I did jump ahead in time a little bit with the choice of gun; the firearms of the time felt like they could look a little too close to the previous blunderbuss, so I went to the 1800's for what is widely regarded as the first sniper rifle: the Whitworth rifle. 13/14

The species of centipede is now actually from Croatia. Eupolybothrus cavernicolus is the species in question, and it has "do far only found in two caves near the village of Kistanje, in Šibenik-Knin County." It looks a like a bigger lankier version of the previous species, which is perfect. 12/14
August 30, 2025 at 3:00 AM
I also added a bit of a fantasy ranger cloak, an article that isn't really used by people of the time widely, or from any version of Der Freischütz, but does show up a bit in modern depictions and influences of the character. 11/14
August 30, 2025 at 3:00 AM
This is also why the color changes so much evolving to this stage; perhaps Drastondec can be just as viable a chose as its final stages in terms of gameplay, with it being a mid point between Castrelaziti's probably special attacking niche and the other stage, or holding its own 3rd specialty. 10/14
