A rare in 2 for me. This subject was on my brain today, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have gotten it so quickly.

Praise be to the LORD God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens. - Psalm 68:19

Read this yesterday morning and I’m still marveling at it.

He bears our burdens DAILY, not just when it’s too much for us.

You’d think I’d know that already. But it hit different this time

Good morning, beloved.

Sometimes, we need to try new things.

But you are not a thing.

So, don’t let anyone try you.

Encourage them to try the library instead.

Today is a great day to overcome evil with good.

The last 2 weeks, I’ve been teaching a unit on tolerance, civility, and free speech.

Today, the administration emailed all faculty to have us revise addenda mid-semester to remove DEI statements.

I deleted the section header and moved the words to a different section with slight edits for fit.

This is how I flirt.

Note: Hair has to be up and me playing with it in order to be flirting. If it’s down and I’m playing with it, I’m just fidgeting.

Today my World Religions class looked at various definitions of religion through history. We discussed how accurate each definition was. The last thing I gave them was what @pastortrey05.com said in his Theologizin’ Bigger.

The students all affirmed it as the best definition.

It’s good to know this exists. It would be great if other states came up with similar programs. Performing a public service and equipping the offender to reintegrate with society after prison should be a serious goal.
I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012.

Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place.

A thread.

It’s bad enough to lose your house, but to not be able to rebuild? That’s just next level awful.

I hope that ways will be found to rebuild. College students across the country are working at home designs that cost less. UC-Riverside displayed an interesting design just this year.
There are families who will never be able to come back from this devastation, and many of them were in generational homes, passed down from people who bought homes in the 1970sand 80's in Altadena. All of the fires are a tragedy, but especially for those who don't have the resources to rebuild.
Eaton Fire Devastates Historic Altadena, Displacing Black Families and Destroying Legacies
While celebrity losses grab headlines, the Eaton Fire has destroyed nearly 1,000 structures in Altadena, displacing Black families who’ve shaped the community for generations. Here's a brief history o...

Christmas with the kids part 5

This is the stillest we’ve been when not sleeping. The Polar Express is pretty awesome though.

Christmas with the kids: parts 3 & 4.

Yesterday, the kids made me a cardboard tree to have in my den to make it more Christmasy.

Today, I attempted to make jelly tarts from Netflix’s “The Mystery of Aaravos” at the kids request. It didn’t go well. Here’s hoping they taste good.

The 15yo is holding crackers for the 8yo and 2yo to jump and bite “like a shark!” 8yo makes a halfhearted jump b/c she knows he’s going to pull it away. 2yo jumps and snatches the cracker w/ her hand before he even knows what’s happened. 🤣🤣🤣

Christmas with the kids. The 2yo’s favorite activity is taking the advent ornaments off the tree and hanging them from my fingers.

So, I’m not a writing teacher and I teach at a community college. About 50% of my students are trying for certifications and will never need these paper writing skills. But, I’m required to give them papers.

Here’s what I’m doing with my students now that seems to be working. 1/8
Students have always been sensitive to receiving constructive feedback, but everyone who teaches is seeing them become ever more so. I'd love to talk about how we're handling it--how do we balance giving loving encouragement with upholding realistic standards of excellence?

Today, I participated in a poverty simulation with United Way of the Piedmont. 🧵

I didn’t want to. The financial insecurity of the last several years is still too near. But my dept head required it, so I went.

The amount of stress I feel in my body right now is insane. I keep telling myself…

Me: I promise my students love me because I’m a good teacher and not because I bring pizza/donuts on the last day of class.

All the other faculty: … can I come take your class?

I’m no expert, just thinking aloud.

It seems like South Korea’s response to martial law has gone so well because its citizens and parliament are united.

On Jan. 6, the citizens present were with Trump, not congress.

It may be that government checks and balances require the support of the people.
I wish the US Congress had responded with the unity and speed of the Korean National Assembly following Trump's attempted coup on January 6, 2021.

At Sunday lunch, my dad was commenting on something he saw on the internet about how to talk to relatives who voted for Trump at Thanksgiving. He said, “How about getting down on your knees and kissing their @$$ for saving the country.”

Just so you know what I’m going through right now.
