This saying literally comes from a 1960s satirical comic strip about a stupid, tyrannical king ruling over a kingdom full of idiot subjects.

Here's Joshua Haldeman dressed as a "soothsayer" in a publicity stunt claiming that Social Credit will win the 1947 elections in Saskatchewan. The symbol in the photo is a "sun cross," a symbol then associated with the Norwegian pro-fascist government of Vidkun Quisling. /12

This woman from the crowd in Ned Braden's striptease scene was supposedly the mother of one of my high school English teachers. I was told she was reacting to something completely different than the actual striptease.

The poster doesn't even try to link the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally with Confederate statues. The poster art is taken from old Soviet poster art for the Leninist youth organization Komsomol. They're clearly reappropriating vanguardist imagery for the far right.

In the run-up to the election, energy prices had actually gone down 5%, when compared to previous year.

I did a graph of total apprehensions by Border Patrol at the southern border from FY1960 to FY2024. There was a dip in 2020 due to COVID, but a huge spike in 2022-3. Biden reduced apprehensions 25% in FY2024 so that apprehensions were still high but lower than the total in 1986 or 2000

How do you explain that there were more Border Patrol encounters with migrants crossing the border in 2022 when Democrats historically overperformed, but fewer Border Patrol encounters in 2024 when Dems lost? Border Patrol interceptions of migrants in Oct. 2024 were ~25% of the level in Oct. 2022.

This graph uses data I got from Google Trends. Google Trends has an index from 0-100 that measures relative volume of searches over time. Searches for "what is mass deportation" peaked the day after Election Day & searches for "what is a tariff" and "what is inflation" peaked 2 days after.

This is a very good sign for Harris in Pennsylvania. I grew up in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania when it used to be a lot redder. A shift like this in Cumberland County is a big deal! And this hasn't even factored in the mail-in vote, which is likely to skew Democratic.

Here's an infographic done by Jane Addams at the turn of the century, who was also a sociologist. The white men who dominated the qualitative "Chicago school" of urban ethnography used to mock Addams' infographics for being rooted in a feminine fear of doing the dirty work of ethnography.

Here's a tweet of what Walz purchased at the Electric Fetus, a record store here in Minneapolis. "Could this be any more Dad rock? And the answer is none, there is none more Dad rock."
