Man, I don’t know. Just saying stuff and trying to hang on. Meta advertising, content marketing, business ownership. Fatherhood and baseball.
My interpretation for the past decade has been that this would result in a view-through conversion. They clicked, but it wasn't the same kind of click as clicking through to my site. I expected to see nothing but view-through conversions.

But when I compared attribution settings, I was shocked...

I created an ad that didn't have an outbound link. It featured an image with instructions of what to do:

1. Click the image in the ad.
2. Open a separate browser window.
3. Go to a specific URL.
4. Follow the directions there.

This would lead to reported conversions. Click or view through?

This charts the change in referrals to my website from AI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude).

It doesn't replace the referral traffic lost by organic search, but it's a start. I've also heard that AI engine referral traffic tends to be higher quality, but I haven't proven that myself.

Take a look...

Interesting!

This doesn't necessarily conflict with what Meta just said on the Q3 earnings call regarding monetization plans. A limited test in early 2025 doesn't mean that advertising is ready to substantively change the feed anytime soon.

Maybe. Not to throw cold water on your excitement, but this doesn't necessarily conflict with Meta's recent statement on the Q3 earnings call about Threads monetization. A limited test in early 2025 could still mean no ads for another year from now.
