During Covid, I started writing down the names of the books I read as I completed them, leading me to wish that I had started doing so earlier.

When I read it yesterday, one of the ways I interpreted it was that anyone could still come and do research, but you couldn't just come and hang out; i.e., you have to have a research reason to be there, which I always had.

Poor education, yes, but also a lack of effort on the part of students to work hard. I have the worst time getting my students to read, do homework, etc., and that's very much not an exception. It starts long before college (for too many reasons to type here,), but it's this generation. Sadly.

How is this a "secret"? I knew about this when I was in college in the 80s (from the 60s). Nothing has changed.

I think it's largely because administrators are always looking toward their next job, rather than the one they have, so they have to Do Something to seem "innovative."

I remember when John McCain said that he got criticized for talking to Democrat Senators on the Senate floor and/or sitting in the back of the chamber with them. It's only gotten worse from then.
