Thanks Chris. I think it's notable too in this example I'm sharing that there were no serious injuries, no speeding and no impairment... yet still they issued the careless driving cite at the scene!

yes that's a good point about the officer involved actually seeing what happened. But yes they are still just a biased witness... and in that culture, a witness that has 100% credibility without question - even though there might be another side to the story.

It would be a good investigative reporting project to analyze a few years of officer-involved collisions and see how/if the prosecution/investigation differs from collisions that don't involve a PPB officer. I have strong hunch justice is much swifter and severe when one of their own is involved.

yeah that guy's advocacy had a massive negative impact on bicycling! It sucks that MIT Press actually republished his book in 2012, giving his views even more life right when U.S. cities were beginning to take protected bike lanes seriously.

I haven’t heard anyone doing that. It’d be a hard/weird stat tho, because of how quickly usable/not usable can shift.

So cool to meet you! Thanks and hope to see you at Bike Happy Hour next week.

I've always said that good leaders know which voices to fear and take seriously, and which ones to politely listen to and then dismiss. When people don't even have the good faith to fairly represent what they oppose, their voices should not be taken seriously.

I mean, imagine the gall of having a lawyer threaten legal action against a project that you haven't even taken the time to actually understand. The bus lanes would actually make it easier for drivers to enter business due to fewer drivers to compete with.

I recorded audio of everything until the second carwash guy began. So I missed the last half hour or so of the meeting. I've already requested a recording from TriMet tho in case we need it.
