22. The days of oil are over. Oil extraction is now becoming so expensive that oil prices would need to be above $80 per barrel for US shale extraction to be profitable. Meanwhile solar PV costs less than an equivalent of $20 per barrel oil.

Oil’s chances have gone up in smoke. Literally.
In March 2024 I wrote this.

"The reality is it will now get harder to make money in the U.S. shale oil industry. There is plenty of oil left in the shale plays of America, it’s just going to cost significantly more to extract than can be justified with $80 a barrel oil. "
