That’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually.

The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.
In terms of process, I enjoy writing but revising????? Oh, that’s my real kink. A second or third draft???? A fourth???? Making tweaks on my desktop AND my phone???? *moans* I’m a WHORE for revision.

sorry to get political, but if they wanted to protect kids, they would feed them. they would invest in their education. they would build more parks, more programs, and invest in their future.

if they wanted to protect kids, they would build a world meant for them.

Recently hit the 1/3 point in the first draft of the Shattered Sky. This one has been a rough journey so far, as my chronic pain keeps getting in the way of my writing time. But I am proud of the progress I have made despite the pain.

Also point this out to anyone you can. These were not planned protests. These were normies getting the supplies for their weekend projects or at a restaurant and saw their servers getting hauled off and were like this is some bullshit.
This is a fever dream. The city is not under migrant occupation. This whole thing kicked off because ICE began an intense operation across the city to raid Home Depots and nail salons and places where random undocumented immigrants might be going about their day working a job.

Guess we gotta keep up the sentiment that GenAI sucks so that more companies start to feel it.

The big “why do you hate AI?” Thread got comments and quotes turned off, but here’s the main reason I hate AI:

It’s being developed by the worst people on the planet solely to enrich themselves at the expense and labor of the world’s vulnerable populations. Everything else stems from that

Good lord just what the hell is up today. A potential ban on any regulation for AI for the next 10 years? This includes good bills like AB 412 of legislation protecting folks from Deepfakes! Wtf?! Call your congressmen and women asap to tell them to take this down!

Last night's episodes of Andor were powerful and harrowing, especially in just how many parallels they had to Israel's still ongoing genocide of the people of Gaza.

With Threads debating whether authors should review, and people asking if I'll keep reviewing as a publisher, I wrote this:

"It is not a coincidence whose voices get stripped away first under these expectations of 'professionalism.'"

Manifesting this for myself.
It's absolutely wild to be sitting at a book festival, signing books for a Very Prominent Bookstore, see someone lurking at the edge of the conversation holding your book, strike up a conversation, and realize it's a Very Prominent Literary Agent.

I still can't get over little things like this. XD

The amount of people in the Magic: the Gathering community who are vehemently against deep and culturally literate worldbuilding is flabbergasting.

Context: WotC recently released the Planeswalker's Guide for upcoming Tarkir: Dragonstorm set. This outlines the new lore added in the set.

I just finished reading The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, and I cannot recommend this book enough. What an absolutely fantastic read.

A casual reminder: No amount of hard work will make you a billionaire.

You could earn a thousand dollars an hour working 24 hours a day every day without weekends or holidays, and after a hundred years (even if you didn't spend a dime of it) you still wouldn't reach a billion dollars.

This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a “dire threat to the American people and our way of life”.

This is a manifesto against disability.

This is the language of eugenics.

The big takeaway here is that Reuters won this case against the AI company on grounds they violated fair use—the judge found the AI company was guilty because, in using copyrighted works to generate its output, it “meant to compete... by developing a market substitute.”

Huge.

Chronic pain sucks. I would very much like to be writing right now, but instead I am lying down with a heating pad on my back desperately hoping the pain lets up enough to let me get back to writing.

In the era of the broken information distribution system, stop accepting that things are a problem without any evidence. Start with, "I'm going to need you to show me some credible sources." Make them go do the homework before giving something credence.

I tend to refer to that iterative category as "machine learning," sort of leaning into the idea that it's a tool, a process, rather than a Capital-I Intelligence (which I see as a dangerous misunderstanding/misrepresentation overall).
