This Bret Stephens column is absolutely bonkers but this is the most egregious part. Who is obsessed with making Mamdani’s campaign about Israel? Because it’s definitely not Zohran Mamdani.

Love waking up on the second day of Rosh Hashanah to see that casual antisemitism is so normalized that the NYT quotes Joe Rogan dropping a well-worn antisemitic trope without any acknowledgement of it at all.

You don’t actually *have* to write about the two racist white guys doing a racist thing and actively trying to get attention for it. You might think you’re making them look bad, but mainstream press—complete with glam shots—is exactly what they want. This is their playbook.

Timeline cleanse: Our neighborhood indie bookstore, @volumesbooks.bsky.social, had a “stuffy sleepover” tonight, complete with arts & crafts, board games, and hide and seek. They sent photo updates and it’s as cute as you’d think it would be. (My kid’s “stuffy” is the too-realistic-its-creepy doll.)

I think you meant authoritative here, @chicagotribune.com.

This is a great, succinct quote from Brad Lander, in Ezra Klein’s latest column (which is well worth a read): www.nytimes.com/2025/07/20/o...

Not sure why the Chicago City Treasurer is sending me a birthday card. Thanks, I guess?

While we’re talking about shitty NYT coverage today, wtf is this framing? Trump used racist fear-mongering to enact unprecedented anti-immigrant policies, but somehow the Democrats calling out his rhetoric for what it is are to blame?

Oh. If only pesky human rights law made way for the president’s “ambition.”

I still am furious the Times destroyed their sports section and replaced it with this garbage.

Outlandish?! I know the Gray Lady wont print “batshit crazy”, but I feel like, absent that, you’ve gotta get categorically false into the headline.

Very nice, Connections.

This MDW, I learned about midges. Now you have to, too.

Why do news organizations keep parroting Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” language? NPR did this the other day, too. It’s meaningless. But by saying it over and over, even in quotes, it starts to take on the veneer of truth.

Can’t stop thinking of this West Wing quote:

This whole article is one long “he was no angel,” from the scare quotes in the headline to the anecdotes about him pulling childish pranks as an actual child in El Salvador. They put 6 reporters on this story?! What journalistic purpose does this serve? www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/u...

Or is it an Apple Weather glitch? It seems OK outside and every other Air Quality site shows that it’s fine:

What’s going on with the air quality in Chicago right now? I’ve never seen an AQI this high #ilwx
