I would add that there's a bit of a difference between the UK "first past the post" system and proportional representation

Sure. The Swiss system is very localised, on a much smaller scale of course. I pay more tax locally than to the Federation

I live in a direct democracy. When the Swiss don't like something the government is doing they collect signatures and, if they get enough, call a referendum. I can't seen that the US at the moment is any kind of democracy

Bit of an own goal, as far as I can see. To say he behaves like a pig is to insult pigs, but he certainly looks like one

My views (European social democrat) have hardly changed at all in the last 60+ years, but the centre has lurched so far rightward that I now seem to be approaching the looney left
