Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving, everyone! 🦃 The bird is cooked (we slow-roast overnight), and the house is almost ready. 🧹 We’re hosting a true Friendsgiving today, with old friends (40+ years) and new. 🩷 No one has to drive far, but we’ll keep an eye on the weather—the wind is howling. 🌬️

I always experiment a bit with my boiled cranberry sauce. It was too sweet, so I put a tiny dash of cider vinegar in it, and now it might be too tart, but hopefully it will sweeten as it sits. 🫣 If not, I have some fancy maple sugar flakes I could sprinkle on the top… Thanksgiving stress already! 😂

Kind of a bummer to have to turn our sunroom (and entire house!) into a shade cave all summer. 🫤 The consistently hot temperatures have forced us into closing all blinds, shades and curtains to try to keep the house cooler. I don’t know about you, but fall can’t get here soon enough!! 🥵

I mean…what a difference! ✨ Why are clean walls (and sparkling windows!) making me so happy? I don’t know. Maybe the summer heat is making me loopy. Maybe it’s one small thing I can control in a world of nonstop chaos. Maybe the 55-year-old house just deserved some love. All of the above, I guess. 🙃

I was watering plants & accidentally disturbed a bumblebee on my rose of sharon. I quickly apologized & redirected the water. He went right back to work. I think I’ve invested so much energy in flowers this year to remind myself things can still be beautiful despite… <gestures wildly>

When we got home earlier, for some reason I looked to the front window to see if Tully was looking out. Friends, Tully crossed the bridge two YEARS ago. The loss hit me again as if it was yesterday. 😞

The world is on fire, but my husband & I hung two new window blinds without (much) arguing. I cooked a “just wing it” dinner that ended up being yummy—kielbasa & egg noodles cooked with applesauce, mushrooms, caramelized onion & Bavarian seasoning (Penzey’s, of course). A good day for comfort food.
