We need to stop treating voters like babies. They are adults making critical choices about our collective future. When they have been persuaded to mess it up they should be told the truth. Doctors can’t pretend you will survive if you won’t; so why shouldn’t politicians also have a duty of candour?

You see the same reasoning w sexual violence. If it hasn’t happened to me that must be bc I am careful / good. Creates incentive not to listen to those who were unlucky in case that bad luck rubs off, or you simply have to understand the level of risk you face daily. Ppl are crap at estimating risk.

The idea that everyone else should be able to plan for and predict the future is strong. The problem is that as soon as someone experiences what it is like to have their life turned upside down … everyone writes them off as feckless and won’t listen to them about how easily it happened to them.

A former colleague conducted research on it.Those with an unfunded third child were v often ‘caught out’: widowed, abandoned, made redundant, became disabled. But all said the policy was right, just not in their case. People don’t understand just how common + undeserved brute misfortune is.

It’s not ‘because of PTSD’ it’s because of the things he was instructed to do. PTSD is more common in women than men outside the military bc of sexual violence: you do not see lots of survivors shooting people - it is the moral injury of committing violence that begets more violence.

My aunt moved into a retirement complex and has a very active social life there. My mother moved in with my sister but became isolated all day while everyone at work/school as she didn’t feel the need to have non-family activities. My aunt by far better off, and survived her 5y younger sister.

Mine used to be great, but since the partner who ran it retired, it has become really terrible. They are not interested in treating anything. Or investigating anything. Just function as A&E triage and put out prescriptions you’ll have to go private to get ‘made’ initially.
