No country has ever been the unadulterated good guys, even when they can and do act for good. But hopefully the realization that the US is very much team evil right now will give us humility and make us less likely to support dangerous wars in the future...

There's lots of good books out there about X'n Nationalism, Reconstructionism, Catholic Integralism, etc, incl by my friends joelbglooper.bsky.app and drewstrait.bsky.app. After those, I highly recommend this, about the Taiping Rebellion, ~same time as the US Civil War, which killed ~20 million ppl
