Adelaide, Australia. Flinders University Emeritus Professor. Pragmatic swinging voter. But quite frankly bemused at the direction of the LNP at this point.

Why do you not recognise Adelaide or South Australia?

Just wow. I knew the coalition were in trouble electorally but this report, commissioned for a Liberal think tank, lays it out in stark detail.

AI strikes again. At this rate technology could see a backlash not seen since the 19th-century Luddites.

Gotta love South Australia. Pouring with rain, severe weather warning in place and with almost no solar at the moment, still manages 98.9% renewables over the past three days.

The Govt has published the sales of petrol for the first half of the year and there are some startling results…
. Overall, petrol sales down over 3%
. Distinct shift to higher quality fuel (to 98+ octane)
. Sales of ethanol blends dropped dramatically - over 11%

Why isn’t this a story?

Browsing Google Maps reviews can be quite amusing. This is one of the recent best for Burnside Village in Adelaide.

Sussan Ley, having lost control of the right wing of her party, now loses the moderates.

Suggesting that free speech about an ongoing genocide is so unimportant that motorists shouldn’t be mildly inconvenienced is, quite frankly, incredible.

Just in case you thought #Spotify was doing artists a favour. No wonder so many are closing their accounts.

Koalas in the Adelaide Hills looking healthy today.

Not sure who came up with this but worth reposting.

They mount up so here is your periodic reminder:

Don’t forget to check that you still actually need all the services that you have subscribed to.
1. On Apple devices you can check under “Subscriptions” in the Settings / Apple Account menu.
2. Then check your credit card statements.

So not only does #Spotify invest in companies that make weapons, and not only are artists abandoning Spotify, but they also pay the artists the least. Time to change.

Batteries are already knocking off some of the peak. Now we’re talking another 4,500 MWh of storage by next June - essentially doubling the dark blue in 12 months - and then again and again after that. And that’s just the home batteries, not the grid-scale ones.

Imagine being a petrol station owner right now. An almost 5% drop in sales year-on-year in May and almost 7% in the lowest grade of fuel.

Are sales of EVs and Hybrids starting to show up in petrol sales? If so, it’s only going to get worse. No wonder petrol prices are so low - supply and demand.

How can Barnaby Joyce look at latest polling and think an argument within the coalition over climate policy and net zero is in any way a good idea?

#Duolingo is getting silly. How is this an acceptable translation? Surely the answer is “Do you want to go to a restaurant?”

How much lower does the US$ have to drop before Trump notices that:
. People overseas are paying less while Americans are paying more for goods
. Americans are paying more for overseas holidays
. Investments in US companies less profitable.

US$ now down over 10% against the Euro this year.

Just to illustrate how far we still have to go on renewables, over the past 24 hours while SA has averaged 23 tonnes of CO2 emissions every 30 minutes, Queensland has averaged over 2000 tonnes of CO2 every 30 minutes. 3 times the population, 88 times the emissions.

If you don’t think the AEMO requirement for gas generation in SA isn’t stupid, have a look on this graph.

Prices in all states are currently negative and yet AEMO forces SA to burn gas to generate electricity. I really don’t understand.

Comments perhaps from @reneweconomy.com.au?

Actually, there’s a 100% chance that negotiations may or may not take place.

Or am I just being pedantic?

What’s amazing is that we don’t celebrate just how incredible this is. Even the Wikipedia page hardly mentions Australia and even then is out by about 20,000 years. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject than me can update it.

The editors at the Australian are really quite a thick bunch.

First, if you’re trying to persuade people, why put everything behind a paywall?

Second, having done that, an awful lot of paywalled articles are then made available by the authors on other sites for free.

No need to subscribe at all.
