One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

Your right to document is a crucial safeguard for your community, and no federal agency can take that away. Keep filming, keep documenting, and keep protecting one another. The Constitution is firmly on your side.

If ICE is uncomfortable with public oversight during large-scale sweeps, the issue is not the cameras, it’s the conduct they don’t want seen.

@ericmigi.com Quick Pebble suggestion: built in "find my phone" function in a sub menu. One that overrides mute/silent mode. My Amazfit does this. My Pebbles do not. There used to be an app for it but it doesn't work anymore and it seems relatively straightforward to add as base functionality.

I really like that every few years @scalzi.com goes, “what’s the stupidest possible book a person could write?” And then he writes it and it’s great.

The new Scalzi book, When The Moon Hits Your Eye, is my 3rd 5 star rating of the year. I don't give that many out. Yes it was a very silly book. But it also had a few chapters that really hit me. And the last 3 chapters were on target.

New book season is tough. Now I gotta finish the Sam Manicom book I'm working on so I can get to the new @scalzi.com release.

Goldwing: I forgot to plug the speed sensor back into the wiring harness when reinstalling the gauge cluster, so cruise and signal auto cancel wasn't working, but I was able to reach under and plug it back in without disassembly. Everything works now and on a pleasant 30 mile trip, no noises.

I got the speedometer gauge out of the cluster. The spinning bit was very gummed up with old grease. I flushed it with brake cleaner a few dozen times while spinning it and it's free now. I'm waiting for the solvent to evaporate then will use a light lubricant - silicone or lithium, and reassemble.

Goldwing status: The extreme howl from the dashboard started up on my way to rehearsal tonight, luckily only a mile from home. U turn, went on the Tracer instead. I guess I need to tear down the speedometer head and clean/lubricate it. I had the speedo module out once but didn't disassemble it.

Goldwing update: put the hitch back on. I want to be able to have a bicycle rack back there. Kind of a pain in the neck, there's a U bolt on the back one on each side that can only go on if you take the corner lights off and disconnect the saddle bags enough to shift them an inch or so.

OK I'm pretty much done with the basic "back to roadworthiness" journey of the Goldwing. I got the rear put back together with new suspension parts, took it out and it feels good now. The plan now is to put a few hundred miles on it and determine what is next.
