Parable of the Sower begins in 2024. I remember being so frightened when I read it in 1995. Horror had nothing on Lauren's nightmarish world.

Called someone I was talkin to at the time. "It's just a story!" And in 1995 when we were almost-but-not-quite 18, yes, it was just a story.

I read Parable of the Sower (and its sequel Parable of the Talents) last summer. Many times my jaw would drop at how eerily it seemed to be closer to prophecy than fiction.
The Handmaid's Tale is a good book. But did you know that there's a book written by a Black woman about a post-apocalyptic Earth heavily affected by climate change and societal decline. The book was published in 1993, but is set in 2024 following a presidential election 👀 #BookSky #BlackBookSky
