Well it’s almost that time folks. Time to put up your Space Stocking and wrap your presents in hopeful dreaming of the arrival of the Xeno Santa and his cosmic sleigh, and what better place to do that than in Space Hotel, the hotel in the cold vastness of space that will open in 12 short months!

Government actors who refuse to be bound by the rule of law are not morally entitled to its protection.
KARL: Did you know about the judge's order when you issued your order for the planes to continue?

KRISTI NOEM: This is an activist judge. We comply with all federal orders that are lawful and binding.

if this is discrimination, I’m genuinely unsure what you’re supposed to do when a student responds to a prompt with some religious gibberish

Lincoln was not only against immigration restrictions, he asked for and Congress approved a policy of *subsidizing* immigration in the form of providing financial assistance for the costs of getting here.

Lincoln himself had a fair amount to say about immigration, and he was both unabashedly for it and scathing in his denunciations of nativists as, more or less, idiots.

Lincoln was re-elected on a party platform saying "That foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources and increase of power to this nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy."
They're not hiding it, folks—straight up neo-Nazi advertising, from the font to the language to the 11 stars for the Confederacy. Then you have the DHS openly using white nationalist language of "remigrate", which means ethnic cleansing.

This is who MAGA is now.

You can tell how fundamental this was as an obvious war crime from how you have to use a mix of archaic English terminology, diplomatic terms of art codified in French, and legal maxims expressed in Latin, to even describe how illegal it is. That's how old the relevant concepts are.

This is, I think, correct. This is the heart and soul of this sort of politics, this is exactly what it's all about for them. And it makes me despair of being able to share a society with them.

oh this is absolutely what i think. i think they feed him fake polls and outright AI slop
At this point, I wonder if he isn't lying when he says he has "my highest Poll Numbers, ever" since it's entirely possible that's what his aides are telling him. It's quite likely that there's an entire Potemkin village built around Trump right now.

For the record, this is the opposite of throwing Kristi Noem under the bus. This is making clear that the decision was made at the highest possible level to assure minimal judicial scrutiny when they run to SCOTUS.
NEW:

The DOJ tells Judge James Boasberg that Kristi Noem made the decision that flights that had departed should continue on to El Salvador, in contravention of the court’s orders.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

this is because people want to turn their cities into museums of their own past. they don't want the future. they want to turn into dust reflecting on how awesome they used to be
It’s really incredible how we decided that cities should no longer be physically shaped by the industries that carry them. I wrote this about the tech industry’s lack of a built legacy in Manhattan over a decade ago, but it could be written 10x over in the Bay Area newyorkyimby.com/2014/12/how-...

With strict limits on growth in Midtown South and on the Brooklyn waterfront, tech giants are leaving little architecture behind for future generations.

Hard for me to say how this is different from Fox News's entire business model, except that it's less sophisticated. This is transparently and obviously bad — and Elon should ban these accounts — but the spirit here of trading rage for money is pretty much a lot of right-wing media.

Just heard that after 27 years on Louisiana’s death row, Chris “Jimmie” Duncan is finally getting out. Not exactly sure when, but I’m told he’ll be home for Thanksgiving.

This is wonderful news.

Experts say this video shows a doctor manufacturing evidence. So why is a man still on death row?
