My department is hiring in African history and the United States since 1865! Both positions are tenure-track, and both hires will be made at the assistant level. I'm not on either search committee (sabbatical, babyyyyy), but I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have. 🗃️

As founder of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, Cabral was a leading voice of anti-colonialism in West Africa.

The US is becoming to akin to apartheid-era South Africa, where racialized groups needed a "passbook" to travel from one part of the country to the other. Who brings a passsport with them when they are traveling domestically?
Oh wow. Lanes on I-10 narrowed suddenly, forcing ALL drivers to exit at a weigh station.

A makeshift checkpoint—digital sign read: “Have Passport Ready”

1 of like 12 ICE agents, all standing around—in full military gear—ordered me to open my window:

“You a U.S. citizen?”
“Uh yes” then let me go..

With all due respect, Kevin, the fascists are going to propagate racist claims about protesters regardless of which flags they wave. Also, appeasement strategies like this seldom work in the informal political realm—or when your opponents are fascists hellbent on brutalizing civilians.

Just recently submitted my manuscript for POLICE AGAINST THE MOVEMENT. It's a retelling of the civil rights movement through its overlooked work against police violence—and the police who attacked the movement with surveillance, infiltration, and retaliatory prosecutions.

Mainstream media, center-right pundits, and Democratic politicians legitimizing a neo-McCarthyist crusade as a campaign against antisemitism in America – that establishes the kind of permission structure that allows people to go with Trump over “the Left.”

New piece:
We Are Falling Apart

The Right is successfully exploiting fears over rising antisemitism for its reactionary crusade while the Israel-Hamas war is tearing the democratic popular front to pieces.

This time last year, we lost the Rev. Charles Sherrod (far right). He arrived in Southwest GA in 1961 w/SNCC and never left. I have a special fondness for Sherrod because he was my first oral history interviewee. I had no clue what I was doing. He was so kind. RIP, my friend.
