I agree massively with the idea of epistemic breakdown, but not that there is a solution where verification happens individually. That's not what is happening, nor a viable solution [1/?]
This is the core of it. In the 20th century, verification happened inside institutions.
Now, it has to happen in us.

Who should do the fact checks with millions and millions of fake news? The nature of social media itself is the problem. However it probably is impossible to get rid of every social network and revert debates to pre 2010-status.

I was wondering why there'd been no Twitter pile-on after a Wash Post piece I posted exposing Kagame's persecution of Rwandan exiles' families. Then I realised. Those "outraged Rwandan patriots" who always troll me are intel agents and policemen. They tweet in govt hours. It's Xmas break. Figures.

Peter Perla, the pioneer of professional #wargaming, passed away last night. Peter indelibly shaped the wargaming profession - from writing the seminal book on wargaming to leading the field for decades. He will be terribly missed - both as a colleague, mentor, and friend.
