Successful evening teaching Magic the Gathering with the new beginner box. The design of the tutorial game is really clever and my partner picked up the basics incredibly quick!

After all that, they still wanted to fight. Anyway, they left the Dark Zone after this and I got to farm in peace. 😅

They caught up again later and died to random enemies while trying to sneak up on me. I decided to be nice and I left their dropped loot to recover - including the exotic they stole from me.

Would we do this all over again? It’s hard to say. Either way, I learned a lot about how we position and market game updates, the language we choose to use, and how we should promote them based on their contents.

So that first themed update went over like a lead balloon. Players were really resistant to the naming convention, felt it wasn’t historically authentic, and they ridiculed it non-stop. At the time, I think this was mostly due to the negative sentiment tied to the update, and less the theme.

We asked our artists to come up with unit mascots that a soldier might paint on the side of their tank or fighter plane. They nailed it right out of the gate. Some of these are so good I’ve thought about getting them as tattoos.

We quickly arrived at naming and theming our updates. We were blatantly borrowing from other titles that have done this well, such as Rainbow Six Siege or No Man’s Sky. We wanted players to feel that each update was an important and memorable event.

Here’s a 🧵on our Marketing and Community teams decision to theme our updates/patches for Company of Heroes 3 versus sticking with update numbers (ex: 1.2.0). It’s been both a blessing and curse, but we’ve learned lots of lessons along the way!

I'm also a sucker for core sets. They often have my favourite type of card - simple text, big effects, with great art.

Everyone I've talked to at Relic that played Space Marine 2, without fail, has unlocked the Blood Ravens cosmetics first. I like to think it was Saber Interactive's way of referencing Dawn of War and Space Marine 1 and giving our studio a nod as they picked up Titus' story.

I guess I'm supposed to post about things I like. I got into painting Warhammer 40K miniatures earlier this year. Hoping to do more of it in the coming months. These were my first models. I spent time experimenting with different colour schemes, bases, and FX paints.
