Basic income, and true housing first approaches to help unhoused folks, would drop violence rates virtually to zero in a VERY short time. Because most violence is in some way, share, or form driven by scarcity. Aka, poverty in this context

Make housing, healthcare, food, clean water, etc ACTUAL human rights. Make them available at no cost to those who need it - and DON’T make people jump through hoops to get them

Instead, we need to put institutions who, at their core, are meant to prevent violence and heal people, in position to do that for our communities. That means the community street teams/de-escalation experts, but also mental health pros, social workers, and getting folks’ basic needs met

Trenton appropriated $56M in 2024, over 1/5 of its budget, to Trenton PD. The street teams get a minuscule fraction of that money

A reform approach to train away the pain doesn’t work, because policing is an inherently violent institution. Asking cops not to be violent is asking them to not be cops
