absolutely batshit insane for a government to drag out the fuel duty "freeze" (annual tax cut) even further
When can you declare an emergency over?

The 5p “emergency” petrol tax cut was introduced in March 2022, to offset a spike in prices

They are now about 30p down on that month, & about 50p down on the absolute peak

This.

This right here is why proper cycling infrastructure is an investment in our communities and our future.

It is only the beginning. This route isn’t even fully finished.

When we stop imagining and start doing, change happens.

We take no joy criticising a young left-wing UK political figure who has often spoken up for workers' rights and progressive causes. But these barely coherent comments from Zarah Sultana on Ukraine sum up much of what is wrong with her wing of the left www.instagram.com/reel/DQT62ys...

I know this is very much a secondary point when the US is on a rapid slide towards total and unadulterated fascism but... A @greens4hs2.bsky.social tee has appeared in Washington DC. Which is kinda blowing my mind. Never underestimate the power of angry train nerds. We might yet change the world.
People loudly jeering these unidentified federal agents.

"You're not helping anyone!"

"How much overtime are you getting paid to do nothing!"

"Boooo!"

And remember that below about the 25th income percentile, a household is unlikely to have access to car. They depend on public transport instead.

Labour's response? Subsidise those who can afford cars, reduce support to those who can't
–The government doesn't enough money to fund even meagre improvements in public services

–A "temporary" tax cut dating from 2022 could be reversed and raise a substantial sum

–In real terms petrol is cheaper than it has been since 2001*

Government: "nah"
Fuel duty could be frozen again in cost-of-living boost
Treasury feels vindicated by last year's decision to maintain long-running freeze on petrol and diesel tax take to ease pressure on household budgets

As promised, my written evidence is now on the @cityinfinity.bsky.social website blog. It has also been acknowledged by Parliamentary support.

I hope you understand why I have unusually disabled replies.

This is why things like fuel duty freezes are just a tax break for the richest.
And national data also shows that car ownership goes up very consistently with household income.

2/3rds of cars are owned by above average income households. Richest 10% own about 5x as many as people with lowest incomes.

The #Roseburn Path is indeed glorious on a day like this and the present amenity will be reduced when the railway is restored, but that’s not reason enough to abandon the only feasible tram route to the north and the environmental and social benefits that will bring.

The AfD is praising Starmer.

The new party of the German far-right. That's who Starmer is appealing to, just days after "Victory in Europe" day.
Germany's far-right AfD likes Starmer's new approach. Do we really have to ask whether Starmer is going in the right direction? 😱🤔

As ever, road policing in Scotland is reactive rather than proactive.

Chances are this won't be the first time the driver has been a criminal in their car.

The cost of inaction is measured in lives and broken bodies.

Call it what it is. Trump is explicitly stating he wants to forcibly displace Palestinians. As per the Genocide Convention, this is an absolute call for genocide by the United States President. This isn't a matter you "debate". It is something you condemn, no questions asked. #r4today
